hubspot beth dunnHave you been to Hubspot's annual INBOUND conference yet? If not, you're missing out on a lot of insightful and informative sessions and advice from industry pros about all things inbound, so ask me about registering for INBOUND 2016.

One of my favorite gems from INBOUND is Beth Dunn's BOLD "Fix Your Writing" talk. It's actually a few years old, but I refer to it over and over again to remind myself about the most important advice we can follow as online marketers: write every day, even if it's crap. Even the best and most influential writers turn out mediocre writing on some days and that's okay. The most important thing is that they write EVERY DAY. You can always refine it after you get the words down on paper or on your screen.

I often work with marketers and business owners who are struggling to reach their marketing goals, and one of the very first questions that I ask them is how many hours per day they work on their content (or have someone else dedicated to working on their content).

Most folks stare blankly, shuffle their feet or mumble an excuse about not having time to do it every day or that it's not really a priority for them to work on it every day. This is a huge red flag to me and thankfully, there's a really simple (but not necessarily always easy) fix: make it a priority and just do it. The hardest part about actually implementing this is just changing your mindset and committing to doing it every day in order to make it a habit. Tiny amounts of time—even three to four hours per week TOTALcan have enormous impact on the success of your marketing program. Even though there might be occasional days where you need to further refine your prose, you'll still be making forward progress and fundamentally changing the way you view marketing.

Check out Dunn's talk in the video below to learn why it's so important to make writing a priority, then tell us in the comments how often you're writing and creating fabulous (or mediocre!) content.
