This week Twitter announced that users are now able to share GIFs, the animated images on continuous loop, in the stream on the web platform as well as iPhone and Android.
GIFs will now appear in your timeline with a play button, like other video content. You can upload GIFs through the gallery button under the text box in the same way you upload a photo.
Twitter users cannot share videos on Twitter unless it's shared through Vine. GIFs are the first video-type content available to regular users (non-advertisers). Users could previously share GIFs to the service through Twitpic.
